“When God Feels Far Away” - Part Two
This is “Part Two” of a reflection and encouragement for feeling distant or disconnecting from the Lord. Recently, a person was sharing with me about feeling distant or disconnecting from the Lord. Even when we feel distant from God, He has not left us. God invites us to draw near and promises to meet us there. So, I would like to share a two-part reflection and encouragement for us.

Five Practical Steps to Take when You Feel Distant from God:
1. Be Honest with God
Tell Him how you feel. He already knows, but intimacy grows through honesty.
Use Psalms as a guide—read Psalm 42 or Psalm 63 aloud as a prayer.
2. Return to the Basics
Restart regular prayer—even if short and simple.
Read Scripture daily, even if it’s one verse.
Play worship music—put on some earbuds and take a walk outside.
3. Confess Your Need for Him and His Grace
Ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart (Psalm 139:23–24).
Don’t hide in shame—Jesus came to restore.
4. Be Still and Wait on Him
God often speaks in stillness (see 1 Kings 19:11–12).
Set aside quiet moments. Rest in His presence, even when you don't “feel” anything right away.
5. Get Around God’s People
Sometimes God speaks and encourages us through others.
Join a small group, talk with a spiritual mentor, or pray with a friend.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that You never leave us, even when we feel far from You. Forgive us for times we’ve drifted or grown cold. Draw us back to Your heart. Renew our desire for Your presence. Speak to us again. We are Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Discussion Questions (for groups or reflection):
When was a time you felt far from God? What helped you?
What step can you take this week to draw near to God?
How can you help someone this week who may be dealing with discouragement?
