Is Anything Too Hard for the Lord | Genesis 18
This sermon, based on Genesis 18 and the question, "Is anything too hard for the LORD?", offers profound insights into the character and power of God.
The core message revolves around three essential truths:
God always keeps His promises. Just as God promised Abraham and Sarah a son in their old age, He is faithful to every promise He makes. Scripture confirms this, stating, "Not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed" (Joshua 23:14). It is impossible for God to lie, guaranteeing the fulfillment of His word (Psalm 145:13, Hebrews 6:18).
Nothing is too hard for the Lord. Sarah's laughter in disbelief at the idea of conceiving a child at ninety years old was met with the Lord's powerful question. The sermon emphasizes that the God who created the heavens and the earth finds nothing too difficult (Jeremiah 32:17). This truth is echoed in the New Testament when the angel Gabriel declares to Mary that "nothing will be impossible with God" (Luke 1:37).
There is nothing funny about disbelief. Sarah's initial laughter and subsequent denial highlight the seriousness of unbelief. The sermon draws a parallel to the Israelites in the wilderness, who, through their unbelief, hardened their hearts and failed to enter God's promised rest (Hebrews 3:12-19). An unbelieving heart can lead one to fall away from God.
The sermon further elaborates on the omnipotence of God by addressing five areas where His power is evident:
No promise is too hard for God to keep. God's nature prevents Him from lying, and He always fulfills what He has spoken (Numbers 23:19).
No problem is too hard for God to solve. Even seemingly insurmountable issues like Sarah's barrenness and old age are no match for the Lord's power.
No prayer is too hard for God to answer. Abraham's prayer for an heir was answered by God, demonstrating His willingness to hear and respond to His people (Genesis 15:1-6). We are encouraged to call to Him, and He will reveal great and hidden things (Jeremiah 33:3), and we will receive what we ask in faith (Matthew 21:22).
No place is too hard for God to revive. God has the power to bring revival and healing to lands when His people humble themselves, pray, and turn from their wicked ways (2 Chronicles 7:14).
No person is too hard for God to save. The Lord's hand is not too short to save (Isaiah 59:1), meaning no one is beyond His reach for salvation.
In essence, the sermon powerfully reminds us that God is faithful, all-powerful, and capable of fulfilling His will and promises, even when they seem impossible from a human perspective.
