Some Things Never Change
These days it seems that so much has changed. Remember when…
Going out to eat was more than take out?
Wearing a face mask meant you were going to perform surgery?
ESPN actually showed live ball games?
Toilet paper was taken for granted?
You could actually see the other people when you preached?
For some, the past few weeks have brought serious, life-altering change...
Job loss
Financial hardship
Sickness
Grief
It is amazing the change we have experienced in a short amount of time. We wonder what tomorrow will bring. What will the summer be like? When will things get back to normal? And what do they mean by “new normal” anyway? No matter what, a verse of Scripture brings great encouragement…
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
Though our outward circumstances are always changing, we do not have to worry about Christ changing. His disposition toward us is fixed for eternity. We do not have to worry about him waxing and waning in his saving power.
Jesus Christ is Immutable.
His holy character will not change.
His righteous standards will not change.
His eternal purpose will not change.
His living word will not change.
His saving power will not change.
His steadfast love will not change.
His sovereign authority will not change.
"You may greatly comfort yourself that you have an unchangeable friend in Christ Jesus.” - Jonathan Edwards
Jesus Christ is Dependable.
“Our ever-changing culture needs the never-changing Christ who alone can provide both the foundation and direction for Christian faith and practice as the church faces the challenges of a new era.” - Daniel Akin
Jesus Christ is Available.
There are no waters where He is not walking.
There are no rocking boats where He is not present.
There are no storms that His voice cannot still.
There are no meals without His face uplifted in blessing.
There are no gravesides without His tender heart touched with sorrow.
There are no burdens without His willing shoulders to share the yoke.
Your brother in Christ,
BRIAN AUTRY
