Get off the Couch and Get in the Game

Football season is back! Maybe you have your fantasy football team picked out. You may have plans to see your favorite team play. You may enjoy kicking back at home and watching whoever play. Or it may be that you could care less about football season.

One thing for sure is there are some devoted fans out there. Universities like Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Texas A&M, LSU, Tenn, Alabama, Texas have stadiums which hold over 100,000 fans. The largest college football game with the largest attendance might surprise you - 156,990. The “Battle at Bristol” college football game was held at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee, Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, between the University of Tennessee Volunteers & the Virginia Tech Hokies – with a record NCAA football largest single-game attendance at 156,990.

As we come out of summer and move into this season of ministry, I pray for people to get off the couch, get out of the stands, and get involved in local church ministry. I pray for the Lord’s calling, power, wisdom, and encouragement to be palpable in your life as a church leader. I pray local churches will have members, partners, team-mates, who lock arms, hunker down, and press on in the mission before us.

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, October 2nd and make plans for you and your ministry team to join us for our Leadership Summit with Dr. Chuck Lawless, as we look at “Help, My Church Is Stuck!” We will see how God works through ordinary people to accomplish His mission and consider how to develop a game plan for this season of ministry. I hope to see you there. Leadership Summit • SBC of Virginia (sbcv.org)
