The Gift

Two weeks from today, your trash can and recycling will likely be filled with torn wrapping paper, boxes, and those little things that make some toys almost impossible to use. In the midst of all the activities over the next few weeks, Isaiah 9:6 is a great Bible verse to remind our families and each of us about the Gift…

Isaiah 9:6, For to us a child is born, to us a son is given…

We have been given the profound gift of Jesus.

A child is born - The Son of Man.  This speaks to the humanity of Jesus.  A Son is given – The Son of God.  This speaks to the deity of Jesus.  One tells us He was the Baby in Bethlehem, the others tells us He is the God of Glory.  As a child He was born to live with us, as a Son He was given to die for us.

…and the government shall be upon his shoulder…

We have been given the powerful gift of Jesus.

Jesus is the One who governs us.  He is the One who guides us.  He came the first time to redeem the world.  The second time He comes, He comes to reign over the world.

…and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

We have been given the personal gift of Jesus.

Now this child, this Son that is given unto us, Jesus Christ has many names.  We know Him as Jesus, Lord, Master, Savior, Christ, Messiah.  He has many titles: King of Kings, Lord of Lords, The Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Rose of Sharon, the Bright and Morning Star.  Isaiah gives us four more…

Wonderful Counselor – a personal gift for the HURTING.

Mighty God – a personal gift for the HOPELESS.

Everlasting Father – a personal gift for the HELPLESS.

Prince of Peace – a personal gift for the HEARTBROKEN.

What a Gift! Thank you, Gracious Father for the Gift, the Gift of Jesus.

May each of us celebrate The Lord Jesus and marvel at the awesome gift He is to each of us.

Your brother in Jesus,

BRIAN AUTRY
